Why Jordan? Places to Visit Taste of Jordan

Places to visit

Ampitheatre

Built in the 2nd century CE and boasting an impressive 6000 seats, the amphitheatre in Amman(muh-daraj) is a must see! In hotter months try to visit before midday or late in the afternoon to avoid the heat.

Citadel

The Amman Citadel is a historical site at the center of downtown Amman (ask your taxi driver for Jabal al-Qala). Most of the buildings you will see there are from the Roman, Byzantine, and Umayyad periods, and it considered to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world!

Petra

Channel your inner Indiana Jones with a trip to the magnificent stone city of Petra! Probably the most famous site in Jordan and a UNESCO world heritage site, make sure to take a couple of days to explore fully!

Dead Sea

Easily reachable by bus from Amman, the Dead Sea is perfect for a relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle of life in the capital- and it has its own microclimate so will often be hotter and sunnier! Whilst there and free public beaches, we would recommend trying one of the beach clubs or hotels for a truly stress-free experience, such as O beach.

Jerash

Less than an hour north of Amman by local bus is the Greco-Roman ruins of the walled city of Gerasa (in the modern city of Jerash). Take a trip back in time exploring the paved and colonnaded streets, the hilltop temples, the beautiful bath houses and intricately carved fountains.

Wadi Rum

A trip to Jordan would not be complete without a camel ride though the truly spectacular bronzed desert of towering sandstone cliffs punctuated by sandy dunes. Spend the night and enjoy a traditionally cooked Bedouin meal, unspoilt starry skies and perfect tranquillity.
